Leather museums

Leather tannery in Catalonia goes from parents to children since 1079

There are two museums dedicated to leather: The Leather Museum and the “Cal Granotes” Museum. They illustrate the history and activity of tanners in Catalonia since the 11th century (1079).

Cal Granotes is a former tannery from 1763, and the only tannery that has become a museum in Catalonia. The building still has the original pits where leather was tanned by hand.

The Leather Museum exhibits machinery and different leather goods from all periods. It shows the tanning process since the industrial era and the importance of the use of leather throughout history.
